This ARM field campaign will focus on characterizing INPs at Oliktok Point on the North Slope of Alaska. Time- and size-resolved samples of aerosol particles will be collected and analyzed for elemental composition and concentrations of INPs of biological and non-biological origin. The Oliktok Pipeline (OPL) begins adjacent to the BP Operated Skid 50 near TAPS Pump Station 1 (PS1). The OPL transports natural gas liquids from Prudhoe Bay to Kuparuk Central Processing Facility 1 (CPF-1) to support operations. Kuparuk Pipeline (KPL) and OPL share the same horizontal and vertical supports between CPF-1 and PS1. Abstract: Located at the North Slope of Alaska on the coast of the Arctic Ocean, Oliktok Point is extremely isolated, yet still accessible by road. The combination of atmospheric observations with measurements from both the ground and over the Arctic Ocean will give researchers a better sense of why the Arctic sea ice has been fluctuating in fairly dramatic fashion over recent years.
